SternaSafe® Uni is adjustable sternum support brace with one size fits all patients. SternaSafe® is an active sternum support band made from comfortable, soft and breathing materials developed for every patient after open heart surgery. The band is put on to the patient directly or one day after the operation and is worn during hospital stay and the first weeks at home. Especially at home the SternaSafe is a great mental and physical help for the patient. The average using time at home is 21 days.
SternaSafe® may prevent from:
– Respiratory complications
– Sternal wound infection
– Separated sternum complications
– May ease in breathing
While using the SternaSafe® during breathing exercises, the patient may have less fear and less pain. Because of this, better post surgical results may be achieved.
Coughing
SternaSafe® gives good support and pressure around the thorax while coughing. It therefore may protect against the “gap” movement and may enhances the ventilation of the lower lung fields.
Mobilisation
SternaSafe® may have a supporting effect on thorax during straining movements. The patient is mostly able to operate the SternaSafe him- or herself, so that the mobilisation process progresses more quickly.
SternaSafe® for which patients?
Depending of the hospital strategy SternaSafe can be use to every patient after sternotomy and especially to highly risk patients such as smokers, obese patients, Osteoporotic and patients with the diabetes.
SternaSafe® Uni consists of a Velcro belt, shoulder straps, and a securing band.
